A Special Reunion for a Special Class!!!
Class of '57 50 year reunion preliminary plans discussed.

Below are ideas as to what the various proposed and existing activities
might include, possible costs to put them on and the cost to class members.
The idea behind multiple activities is to give us more time together.
This is especially true for those who travel long distances and go to
considerable expense to attend. Since most classmates will be retired
there likely won't be the urgency to get out of town.

PLEASE send in your thoughts about these or other ideas you may have for this special reunion.

 *** Friday ***
Golf (Not an 'official' reunion event): Morning (or could play Thursday, or both)
Everyone's invited.  A couple of times during the weekend of past reunions
a handful of people have gotten together to for an informal (very) round of golf.
This provides great camaraderie and a lot of laughs.

 "Ice Breaker" circa 4:00 - 7:00 PM
A popular event in 1997 and 2002, this would likely be held in the lounge area of
a restaurant.  In 2002, it was held at Stephenson's, on 40 Highway.  That area
might not be big enough, in 2007, with the anticipated increased participation
that usually occurs with 50 year reunions.  There would be no charge.

Pep Rally (if still held)
This might be a fun time.  Maybe Betty Lou and Marilyn could do a few cart wheels at the rally.

Bear Town Mixer (alcoholic or non-alcoholic - input please)
One thought on this would work is to hold it in the newly refurbished Memorial
Building.  It is a little expensive, but if we can get broad participation by '57
grads as well as grads from other classes, that would be a way to keep costs down.
So there would be a pre-paid cover and a cash alcohol or non-alcohol bar.
Snacks and hor d' ouerves with be included in the cover.  A disk jockey
would be hired to provide music from the mid to late fifties.

Maybe a raffle could be held during Bear Town to defer some of the expenses.

*** Saturday ***
Homecoming Parade around the Square (if still held) Not only would this be an
event to watch, but to have some of our class members as participants.  It would
be great to have Class of '57 convertibles carrying our Homecoming Queen,
Wilma McElwee Palmer, her senior attendants and possibly the junior and
sophomore attendants.  Convertibles, or a flat bed truck, could carry
co-captain Bill Dawson and the possibly all the seniors football players
who played during the '56 season. (Actually, this is a tradition that should have
initiated some time ago ... and should probably include the 20 year class as well.
Of course, the school would have to agree to it as would the participants.

Pre-game Tailgate Party in stadium parking lot (non-alcoholic) 11:30 - 1:30 (?)
This event would probably have to be catered, at least least the food portion.
Cost and space and the school's willingness to let us hold it would be considerations.
The reunion fund might be able to pay for soft drinks, or at least make them
available at a low price. (If enough volunteers are available the class could do the food)

Another thing that might be looked into would be to make available special '57 mums,
on a pre-purchase basis for those who might want them.

Homecoming Football Game 2:00 PM
A couple of thoughts here ... if the school would agree ... have Wilma and her Court
along with the '57 grads/players introduced either before the game and at halftime.
Perhaps space for a special section in the stadium for the class of '57.

Alumni Reception @ WCHS following game (if still held)
This event, sponsored by the WCHS Alumni Association was being held as recently as three years ago. The understanding is it is held in the school and is free.  Coffee, etc. is provided.

"Main Event" (could be with or without dinner; we'd like input)
If without dinner it would probably start a little later than previous reunion "Main Events".
The later start would allow everyone to eat what they want and at their own pace.
The "no dinner" thought is brought up as the food never seems to justify the cost.
In addition, it takes away from time with classmates.  We'd really like input on this concept.
A disc jockey or band would provide appropriate music.
There would be a "cover" fee and a cash bar.  The cover fee would be to pay for building rental,
music, snacks and other costs to put it on.

*** Sunday ***
Brunch or Picnic (input please)
Other classes have done this and reports are they were greatly enjoyed.
This needs to be looked into more to see how the other classes did them.

It's likely not everyone would attend every event but if enough
people are interested in them, they'd make for a great weekend.

Cost is always an important consideration by the committee. Since these
ideas were just discussed the costs of each of the events isn't known yet.
But rest assured, cost, as well as input received, will get keen consideration.

To provide input about the number and type of events plus how
you feel about opening up some of the events to other classes..
