Osthoff Class of 1958 November 8, 1940 - January 4, 2003 |
| William
"Bill" Osthoff, 62, of Independence, MO, passed away
January 4, 2003, at his home surrounded by family. Bill was born on
November 8, 1940, in Independence, MO, and attended William Chrisman
High School. He graduated from the University of Missouri School of
Journalism and was a lifelong Missouri Tigers fan.
He worked for a number of years as a reporter and at the age of 26 was promoted to Bureau Chief for United Press International. In 1972, Bill joined the advertising agency of Valentine Radford, Inc., where he served as vice president in account service until 1986. He later worked at Stephens & Associates Advertising in Overland Park, KS, and most recently was part-time copy editor in the sports department of The Kansas City Star, where his knowledge of college and professional sports made him a valued member of the editorial staff. Bill was a tremendously gifted writer, as well as sports enthusiast, Kansas City historian and story-teller. During his reporting career, he had the opportunity to meet and interview Harry Truman and many other famous American and sports figures, and he enjoyed retelling those stories to those around him. He was a well of information, statistics and trivia, and his humor, stubborn personality and stories will be missed by all those who knew him. He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Anita Osthoff; son, William
Osthoff and his wife, Martha, and their sons, Bob and James; daughter,
Suzie Masters and her husband, Jim and their children, Britt, Jimmy and
Kemal; as well as three stepchildren, Kevin Karnes, Kris Karnes, Karee
Graves and their families. And of course, Ozzie, his cocker spaniel of
seven years. |
